Write a Short Letter

...and Mail, E-mail or Fax it

Don't know what to write or who to write to? See T.A.'s advocacy campaigns or look-up your elected representative.

Writing a short, specific letter is the one of the most important things you can do to get better conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians. Lots of people complain, but only a handful write, which is why letters mean so much.

Just one letter is enough to get an elected official to look into a problem.

The best way to help cyclists and pedestrians and stay informed is to become a member. We will make sure to let you know when, who and how to write. After you join, sign-up for the free T.A. StreetBeat. An online sign-up form for T.A. StreetBeat is at the bottom of this page.

If you are looking for ideas for writing a letter or would like to become better informed before writing, please see our campaigns section. You can also check for the latest letter-writing opportunities in our E-Bulletin and in the sample articles from our current magazine. Letter-writing opportunities are designated there with the < symbol.

If you aren't sure who represents you at the various levels of government, please see the New York Public Interest Research Groups (NYPIRG) Who represents me? page. More information is also available on our government contacts page.

Please send a copy of your letter, e-mail (info@transalt.org) or fax to T.A. (212-629-8334) as well. We sometimes reprint particularly well-written letters in the T.A. magazine and the T.A. StreetBeat.
