Bike Month got off to a great start as 30,000 cyclists took to the streets for the annual 5 Boro Bike Tour on Sunday May 1st.
On Friday May 6th the Bronx celebrated Bike Month with Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión, who after leading a morning commuter ride drew thundering applause for announcing his intent to bring back Car Free Sundays on the Grand Concourse.

Transportation Alternatives commended Bronx Borough President Carrión for his year-round support of cycling in the Bronx. |
Cyclists kept rolling through the Bronx on Saturday May 7th with the first ever Bike to the Bronx Bombers Day. The Yankees won, as did participating cyclists who enjoyed a great ride and special giveaways from the event's sponsor - the NYC Department of Transportation.
Last night cyclists near the Queensboro Bridge had the opportunity to meet and great Queen's Borough President Helen Marshall, who handed out snacks and water to commuters coming home and cyclists headed into
Manhattan for work and play.

Bestowing Props to Noah Budnick, Mayor Bloomberg Declares May 6, 2005 National Bicycle Greenway Day
…Whereas: H.G. Wells said, "Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race." New Yorkers second this sentiment, and take this opportunity to extend their gratitude to NBG, Recycle a Bicycle, and Transportation Alternatives, home to Noah Budnick, the dedicated activist who suffered injuries while working on behalf of his fellow cyclists. We join these worthy organizations and their supporters in wishing all of those involved in the Mayor's Ride the best of luck in their two-wheeled journey to a healthier, happier, and greener future.
Now therefore, I, Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, in recognition of this important event, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 6, 2005 in the City of New York as "National Bicycle Greenway Day."
