V-Z Bridge: Until There Is
a Path, the Buses Need Racks
T.A. has once again urged MTA
Bridges and Tunnels to install bike racks on the S53 and S79 - the buses that
cross the Verrazano Bridge. Bike racks on the buses is not a new idea. The
extensive, 1997 Department of City Planning "Verrazano-Narrows Bridge
Pedestrian /Bicycle Access Study" recommended bike racks on the buses as
the most cost effective and timely way of getting cyclists across the
Verrazano Narrows. While T.A.'s ultimate goal is a path dedicated to cyclists
and pedestrians, bike racks on the buses is a necessary connection in the
interim.
