This bridge has those lousy shingles in the middle section, and a set of stairs at the north end.

Madison Avenue Bridge
Once marked by a metal mesh roadway and a nasty sidewalk, ongoing construction on the bridge has brought some improvements, including concrete fill.
Manhattan entrance: Madison Avenue at 138th Street.
Bronx entrance: 138th Street, at the foot of the Grand Concourse.

145th Street Bridge
Walkway on the southern side; theres some uneven rubbery stuff at the Manhattan end and the rest is a little bumpy, but overall not bad.

Macombs Dam Bridge
Walkway on both sides, with decent pavement. There are four spans to
the bridge: the western one comes down from Washington Heights over a
valley, the next one crosses the Harlem River, the third spans the
Metro-North tracks, and the easternmost covers the Major Deegan
Expressway. At the Major Deegan entrance, you have your choice of
hubcaps from most major auto manufacturers.
Reconstruction will begin Spring 1999, but is not expected to affect walkway.

This connects the George Washington Bridge with the Cross-Bronx Expressway.
No bicycle or pedestrian path; closest alternative is the Washington Bridge.
Washington Bridge
Not to be confused with the George Washington Bridge on the
other side of the island, this bridge has walkways on either side. The pavement is not very good, and covered with trash. No stairways.
Manhattan entrance: 181 Street and Amsterdam Avenue
Bronx entrance: Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard (University Avenue) and Edward L. Grant Highway
University Heights Bridge
This bridge is very popular with pedestrians, and the pavement is excellent. No stairs.
Manhattan entrance: 207th Street and Ninth Avenue.
Bronx entrance: Fordham Road and Sedgwick Avenue.
Broadway Bridge
This is one of those bridges where the middle section can be raised to accommodate
river traffic. There are walkways on both sides, which are metal
grates filled with concrete; excellent surfaces. No stairs.
Manhattan entrance: Broadway past 220th Street
Bronx entrance: Broadway south of 225th Street

There is a walkway on the west side of the lower roadway. Pavement
quality on the walkway is excellent. Bike accessible, but bikers have to
walk their bikes.

Bronx entrance: Henry Hudson Parkway West, just south of 227th Street
