Development and Membership Director
Bookkeeper/Office Administrator Prospect Park Youth Advocates StreetLife Ambassadors Development and Membership DirectorTransportation Alternatives seeks an experienced, outgoing, team-oriented and highly communicative livable streets enthusiast to serve as our Development and Membership Director. The ideal applicant is highly organized, entrepreneurial and in possession of great writing skills, a deep affinity for New York City and strong motivation to fulfill Transportation Alternatives' mission "to reclaim New York City streets from the automobile and promote bicycling, walking and public transit as the best transportation alternatives." Prior experience in fundraising, grant writing and database oriented membership growth and maintenance is a must. The Development and Membership Director will be responsible for developing and leading fundraising and membership campaigns and executing events and outreach strategies to double T.A.'s 6,000 strong membership. The Development and Membership Director will also work to greatly expand T.A.'s network of individual and foundation donors, working with the Executive Director and staff to pursue and secure foundation support and government contracts and to cultivate individual donors. The position will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with T.A.'s Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Campaign staff and Events Director. T.A.'s Membership Coordinator/Bookkeeper and Volunteer Coordinator will both report to this senior level staffer. The position will be competitively compensated. Bookkeeper/Office AdministratorTransportation Alternatives seeks a well organized, motivated and personable administrator to maintain our accounts, manage our human resources system and manage our dynamic office of more than 17 employees. The Office Administrator will be responsible for all financial transactions for the organization and will track all income, expenses and accounts. This person will be responsible for tracking and reporting our financial activity to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. The Office Administrator will also work with the Executive Director to prepare annual budgets, with the Development Director to fulfill grant administration requirements and with the CPAs and payroll consultants to create annual financial audits and complete necessary tax filings. This position will also entail the oversight of all business insurance accounts in addition to other business accounts. The Office Administrator will also be responsible for Transportation Alternatives’ Human Resources system. This will involve serving as benefits administrator for all employee payroll and benefit tasks including acting as a liaison for employee inquiries and issues. The Office Administrator will additionally serve as Office Manager. As TA’s front office, this person will be responsible for maintaining the general well-being of the office, greeting office visitors, fielding all general phone call inquiries, ordering office supplies, organizing and maintaining all office materials, and assisting staff with general administrative issues. Do you wish you could hang out in Prospect Park after school without worrying about speeding traffic? Are you tired of breathing air polluted by exhaust? Are you ready to do something about global warming? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, it’s time to apply to join the Prospect Park Youth Advocate Team! This summer, Transportation Alternatives is hiring 4 young adults (Ages 15-18) to make real change in Brooklyn. We are looking for smart, motivated and passionate young people to help our staff develop a new youth campaign to reduce car traffic on local streets and finally eliminate car traffic on Prospect Park’s loop drive. As a Youth Advocate, you will gain leadership and public speaking skills, learn about your local government, become more connected with your local community, and help win cleaner air and safer streets in Brooklyn. This summer, you can fight global warming and win clean air on your very own street. Transportation Alternatives is now recruiting creative, motivated and responsible high school students. StreetLife AmbassadorsTransportation Alternatives is looking to hire eight to ten outgoing individuals to work part-time through the summer as StreetLife Ambassadors. StreetLife Ambassadors will be part of a team that will represent Transportation Alternatives at neighborhood block parties, car-free events and bicycle events throughout the summer. StreetLife Ambassadors will work closely with T.A.’s StreetLife Coordinator to conduct outreach and interviews while staffing these events. This is a flexible, part-time position, with most opportunities for work falling on the weekend days. You will not be working within an office environment. Instead, you will be outdoors connecting with New Yorkers to better understand how T.A. can improve public life in the city. Responsibilities include:
